Adjust how long a SkillCheck test invitation stays active — either for a single candidate or across all new invites.

---

### When to Use This

- A candidate needs more time to complete their assessment.
- You want to shorten or lengthen the default test availability window.
- You’re managing time-sensitive hiring cycles or bulk invites.
- You need to update validity settings without reissuing test links.

---

### Prerequisites

- Recruiter or Company Manager access to **SkillCheck**.
- The invite must still be active (not expired).
- Permission to modify account-level or test-level settings.

---

### Quick Start

1. Open the candidate’s profile and find the relevant test invite.
2. Click **Extend** → choose how many extra days to add.
3. Confirm — the candidate can now reaccess the test using the same link.
4. To adjust the default validity for all future invites:
  - Go to **Profile → Account Settings → Validity Period**.
5. To customize validity per test:
  - Go to **Tests → Edit → Settings → Set Invitation Validity** → enter the number of days.

---

### Detailed Steps

#### 1. Extend a Specific Candidate’s Invite

- Select the candidate from your dashboard.
- Open their test invite.
- Click **Extend**.
- Move the slider to the number of days you want to grant.
- *Why this matters:* avoids resending tests and losing existing progress.

2. Change the Default Validity for All Invites

- Navigate to **Profile → Account Settings → Validity Period**.
- Adjust the default duration (in days).
- *Note:* Only users with the proper permissions can change account-wide settings.
- Useful if your typical assessment window (e.g., 7 or 14 days) differs from the platform default.

#### 3. Set a Custom Validity per Test

- Go to **Tests → Edit → Settings → Set Invitation Validity**.
- Enter a custom number of days.
- Close settings to save changes.
- *Why this matters:* test-specific validity prevents long-open links for high-stakes or time-limited tasks.

### Use the Product to Go Faster / Safer / Clearer

| Step | Feature | Benefit | Evidence |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Extend Invite | One-Click Extension | Avoids duplicate invites and confusion | Keeps same test link active |
| Account-Level Setting | Global Validity Control | Standardizes process across recruiters | Role-based permissions required |
| Test-Level Validity | Per-Test Flexibility | Adapt timelines to difficulty or seniority | Saves per-test in seconds |

---

### Examples

**Example 1:**
A candidate reports illness and needs two extra days. You open their invite and click **Extend → +2 days** → the same test link remains active, no resend needed.

**Example 2:**
You notice too many expired links after 7 days. You change the global validity in **Account Settings** to 14 days → future invites automatically adopt the new window.

---

### FAQ

**Q:** Can I extend an invite that’s already expired?
**A:** You can reactivate an expired invitation from the invitation view.

**Q:** Who can change the default validity period?
**A:** Only users with Company Manager permissions.

**Q:** Does extending the invite affect the candidate’s progress?
**A:** No. It simply reopens the time window.

**Q:** Can I shorten validity after sending?
**A:** Not for existing invites, only for future ones.

### Pitfalls & Tradeoffs

- Don’t extend invites indefinitely — stale links can weaken data quality and compliance.
- Account-level changes affect all users; confirm with your team first.
- Candidates may miss notifications if extensions aren’t communicated directly.
