Use additional job positions in SkillPanel to reflect employees who split time across multiple roles. This keeps analytics, learning paths, and skill tracking accurate without duplicating records.

---

### When to use this

- An employee handles a secondary function (e.g., developer and scrum master).
- You want analytics to reflect hybrid or cross-functional roles.
- A person temporarily covers another position.
- You need to include all skillsets for accurate gap analysis.

---

### Prerequisites

- Manager permissions in SkillPanel.
- Access to the employee’s profile under **People → Employees**.

---

### Quick start

1. Go to **People → Employees**.
2. Select the employee.
3. Click **Edit** (top-right corner).
4. In **Additional job positions**, pick the relevant position from the dropdown.
5. Click **Save changes**.
6. The extra position and its skillsets appear in the employee profile and analytics view.

---

### Detailed steps

1. Open the employee’s profile from **People → Employees**.
2. Click **Edit** in the top-right corner.
3. Locate the **Additional job positions** field.
4. Start typing the position name and select from the dropdown.

5. You’ll see **Job position skillsets** automatically expand to include new skills.
6. Click **Save changes** to confirm.
7. Return to the employee’s profile. The new position appears below the main title.
  - *Why this matters:* Combined positions merge skillsets so you can track all relevant competencies without inflating headcount.

**Scenario 1:**
*Input:* Matt Baker is a Scrum Master who also contributes as an Architect Analyst.
*Action:* Add “Architect Analyst” as an additional job position.
*Outcome:* His skillset now includes both Agile leadership and architecture competencies; analytics show both roles under one record.

**Scenario 2:**
*Input:* Zahra Abdullah is a .NET Backend Developer who also contributes as a NextJS Frontend Developer.
*Action:* Add “NextJS Frontend Developer” under Additional job positions.
*Outcome:* Zahra rates their skills for both positions, adding skill tracking for the second position as well.

### FAQ

**Can I assign more than one additional position?**
Yes, you can add multiple as needed.

**Will skillsets from both roles combine?**
Yes, SkillPanel merges all skillsets automatically.

**Who can make these changes?**
Only users with manager permissions.

**Where do additional roles appear?**
Under the main title on the employee’s profile and in tooltips in the employee directory.

---

### Pitfalls & tradeoffs

- **Don’t duplicate roles.** Re-adding the same title twice skews analytics.
- **Plan timing.** Adding or removing positions mid-cycle may affect analytics snapshots.
