Expand an employee’s learning or evaluation scope by assigning extra skillsets beyond their core job position.

---

### When to Use This

- When an employee takes on **cross-functional responsibilities**.
- To support **career growth** or **role transitions**.
- When new skills or technologies are introduced to their team.
- To include **optional or department-wide skills** in assessments.

---

### Prerequisites

- Access to the **Employees** section in **SkillPanel**.
- Manager or administrator permissions to edit employee profiles.

---

### Quick Start

1. Go to **People → Employees**.
2. Locate the employee using **search** or **filters**.
3. Click the **three dots** beside their name → select **Edit**.
4. Click **+ Add skillset**, choose one or more new skillsets.
5. Click **Save changes** to confirm.

---

### Detailed Steps

1. **Open the Employees Tab**
Go to **People → Employees**. Use the **search bar** or **Show filters** to locate the right employee quickly.
*Why this matters:* Filters make it easy to find employees by team, department, or position in large organizations.

2. **Select and Edit the Employee**
Once you find the employee, click the **three dots** menu at the end of their row and choose **Edit**.
*Why this matters:* The edit menu centralizes all user-level actions like role changes, evaluations, or deletions.

3. **Add an Additional Skillset**
In the **Edit employee** window, scroll to **Additional skillsets** and click **+ Add skillset**.
*Why this matters:* Adding skillsets enables employees to be evaluated or trained in broader competencies beyond their core role.

4. **Choose and Assign the Skillset**
Select from the list of available skillsets (e.g., *Coaching and Mentoring*, *Data Engineer*).
You can also set an **Assignment Type** (e.g., *Required* or *Optional*).
Then click **Save changes** to finalize.
*Why this matters:* This ensures employees’ self-assessments and development plans reflect all relevant skill areas.

5. **Employee Notification**
  - If the employee **has not** started their **Initial Self-Assessment**, the new skillsets will automatically appear when they first log in.
  - If they **have already completed** their self-assessment, they’ll receive a notification prompting them to rate the new skills.
*Why this matters:* Ensures no skill gaps are overlooked — employees are always aware of newly assigned competencies.

A: No. It only adds new skills; existing scores remain untouched.

**Q: Can I assign multiple skillsets at once?**
A: Yes. You can select several before clicking **Save changes**.

**Q: Are employees notified by email?**
A: Yes, they receive both an in-app and optional email notification when new skills require rating.

### Pitfalls & Tradeoffs

- **Avoid adding redundant skillsets.** It can clutter analytics and dilute focus areas.
- **Don’t assign every skillset as “Required.”** This can overwhelm employees during self-assessment.
- **Check access roles.** Only managers or admins can assign new skillsets; standard users can’t self-add.
