Group related skills into reusable sets for specific roles, teams, or projects. Skillsets let you standardize what “qualified” means across positions.

---

## Why

Skillsets turn individual skills into actionable role profiles. Instead of assigning dozens of skills manually, you define them once and reuse them wherever needed.

---

## When to Use This

- Defining core competencies for new roles.
- Standardizing expectations across similar positions.
- Updating required skills after a process or tool change.
- Comparing skill coverage across teams.

---

## Prerequisites

- Access to **Talent Framework → Skillsets**.
- Editor or Admin permissions.
- [Manage and Customize Skills in SkillPanel's Skill Manager](https://skillpanel-help.refined.site/space/TBG/2894331905/Manage+and+Customize+Skills+in+SkillPanel's+Skill+Manager)
- [Creating Job Positions](https://help.skillpanel.com/space/TBG/2893742090/How+to+create+and+edit+job+positions%3F)

---

## Quick Start

1. Go to **Talent Framework → Skillsets**.
2. To **create**, click **Add New Skillset** (top right).
→ The creation panel opens on the right.
3. Name the skillset → Select skills using **Select Skills**.
4. Click **Create Skillset** to save.
5. To **edit**, click the **⋯ (three dots)** beside an existing skillset → choose **Edit**.
6. Add or remove skills, then click **Save Changes**.

---

## Detailed Steps

### 1. What a Skillset Is

A Skillset combines multiple skills, soft or technical, core and/or optional, under one label. When linked to a job position, the required mastery level applies to every skill in that set.
**Why this matters:** Keeps evaluations consistent and scales quickly when roles multiply.

### 2. Create a New Skillset

1. Click **Add New Skillset** (top right).
2. A side panel opens. Enter the **Skillset Name**.
3. Click **Select Skills** → choose from the company’s skill library.
4. Review your list → click **Create Skillset** (bottom right).
**Why this matters:** You define once, apply to many. Less manual setup later.

### 3. Edit an Existing Skillset

1. Find the skillset → click **⋯ (three dots)** → **Edit**.
2. Inside edit mode, review assigned skills.
3. Click **⋯** beside any skill to **Remove** or **Unmark as Core**.
4. Use **Select Skills** to add new ones.
5. Click **Save Changes** when done.
**Why this matters:** Keeps roles current without rebuilding from scratch.

## Examples

**Example 1:**
You create a *Project Manager Core Skillset* with *Leadership, Agile Practices, Communication, Risk Management*.
→ Assign it to all PM roles to enforce shared baselines.

**Example 2:**
You edit *Data Analyst Skillset* to add *SQL Optimization* after a tooling update.
→ Every job linked to that skillset inherits the new requirement automatically.

## FAQ

**Q:** Can a skill belong to more than one skillset?
**A:** Yes. Skills are reusable across multiple sets.

**Q:** Does editing a skillset affect existing role profiles?
**A:** Yes, updates propagate to linked roles. Review before saving.

**Q:** Can I delete a skillset?
**A:** Yes, but linked jobs lose the reference. Audit first.

**Q:** What’s the difference between Skillsets and Job Positions?
**A:** Skillsets define what’s needed. Job Positions define who needs it.

## Pitfalls & Tradeoffs

- Don’t duplicate similar skillsets if possible.
- Changing mastery levels mid-cycle can skew performance comparisons.
- Avoid assigning incomplete skillsets to live roles, as they’ll understate gaps.
